Well guys, girls and non-binary folk. It is officially 62 days until another Fresher's week. A week dedicated to young Freshlings who awkwardly wonder around the campus, drink far too much and struggle with the basic element of cooking. I remember when I was a Freshling all of those years ago (September 2014). Back in my day , there was sticky floors, my best friend being conked on the head by my other best friend, a trip to Liquid and Envy where a fight broke out whilst we were drinking WKDs and a singalong of the Pokémon Theme Tune on 13teen. In some ways, things haven't changed. The Fleshlings are still tagging each other in nights out. We still have to remind the students that they need to eat decent food and actually rest their livers and the marketing materials still say that it will be the best week of their lives. I personally think that Fresher's is like a fine wine, it gets better with age and experience. Now I'm going to be paid to pass on my experience...
Well, a lot has changed since my last blog entry. Firstly, I have 0 intention to top myself (praise the lord) and I've now got a job! I'm also no longer the DSU's Postgraduate officer as I officially left that post on Friday which means I'm probally going to need to work out how to change my blog title. That being said, I'm not leaving the SU just yet. I'm happy to announce that I am one of the new Student Champions until December. In short, it's doing the work of a FTO but without any form of manifesto. It's a bit odd on paper but in practically it means that I'll be working events like Open Day, Fresher's Weeks, Clearing, etc. meetings loads of old and new students and getting £10 an hour. It's also super flexible which means that I can still finish off my MA and earn money to travel afterwards. Consider this blog now, 'confessions of a Student Champion' until further notice.
