Am I CLEAR enough for you?

I apologise for my lack of posts over the last 10 days or so. This is because I have been (at the request of everyone else) on a little bit of a break. Where meetings have been replaced with Sims 3 and Roller Coaster tycoon 3. However today, I was back to buisness due to the fact that I had Clearing Training.

Clearing for those who don't know is a scheme that UCAS offer where students who decided to apply for university later than the deadline are able to search and be accepted for their dream course. It is also for people who just missed out on their firm and insurance offers (we don't use reject here at DMU).

I had to learn about a special programme called ADMISS which is essentially a database that has every person who has applied to DMU. It's able to work out your UCAS points and you can search what courses are still taking people and what UCAS Points are needed. It's a deciptively easy programme to use.
It's nicer than it looks. Honest.

The next part of my training takes place next Wednesday and will have me practicing with the phones so that we are all ready to go live on results day.

When I wasn't doing my traning, I was preparing to book a big meeting reference one of my bigger focuses of this year of which I am now going to dub #GetInvolved. #GetInvolved is going to be one of my big campaigns this year and is going to look at making Postgraduate students aware of all the different things that the SU offer to enhance pastoral experience (or the fun stuff you do when you're not studying). More importanly getting this group of students involved in these different actitivities so that their HEAR reports are fatter than a turkey at Christmas.

Of course I understand that it's not just going to be a simple case of 'try this'. If it was, I wouldn't need to campaign about it. It's also talking to commitees of societies and clubs to see what support they need to make their clubs more attractive to Postgraduate students. Not only that but I want to see how other universities that are known for their fantastic postgraduate support do it and see what Postgraduate students want.  Needless to say, I'm going to be doing alot of grilling and analysing in these next couple of months.

I also took a sneaky shot of where are photos are going to be.

I also had a nosey at the new #Freshfest17 guide. Well, I say nosey, it was more of a case of me asking Adele about the social media training and spotting it on the table. It looks so cool and I caught a cheeky snippet at a couple of the unannounced nights outs (my lips are sealed until August 17th.) and got to see my name in print. It's so exciting that for the first time (at least in my memory) we have things for Postgrads and mature students because I always felt they got the short end of the stick when it came to freshers. It's the exact reason why it was in my original manifesto.

Which reminds me, wristbands. To buy or not to buy? It depends. If you are one of those people who likes to eat, sleep, rave and repeat then a wristband will be better value. Especially if you get on now because you can do about 6-7 nights over the 2 weeks and then you're saving money (less if you go to the Fresher's Ball and the Bar Tour). If you fancy doing 3-4 nights then it's worth keeping a look out for one of the magic ticket packages, these are normally cheaper than a wristband but get you into less of the events. If you only plan to do 1-2 nights then you are better off buying individual tickets.

You can click here to buy a wristband for £49.99. This is the cheapest it's going to be!

I personally have already brought my wristband as I did it last week like a good organised officer (despite popular opinion, we have to pay for them just like the normal student folk) so the only thing I need to sort is my T-Shirt for the bar tour. If you guys have any suggestions for what colours us officers should wear tweet me @cREWllypenguin2  or @DSU_PG(although I won't really be active on this account until next week minimum due to social media training). Alternatively, snap me your T-Shirt colour of choice at kdaviesdmu.

I shall now do my next entry when I have some further developments with clearing training or #GetInvolved.

Until then happy peoples,

toodle pips.

Kelly
