Yesterday, I was locked in a computer room somewhere in Hugh Aston. Now whilst this was happening, alot of students were talking to somebody called Kelly about all sorts of wierd and wonderful things. How do they link? I was talking to said students from the computer.
You see, DMU have an online chat once a month where prospective Undergraduates and Postgraduates are able to ask members of staff all sorts of wonderful questions about anything related to University life. This could be from requirements to their dream course, how to contact clearing and the UCAS application process to what Fresher's week is going to be like (the calender looks amazing! FYI).
So I was one of said members of staff. I had a couple of questions about the types of accomodation we offer at DMU and one student was impressed by how cheap we were in comparision to his old city. I also had one student asking about the social life at DMU (Hey men's football, I reccomended you a couple of times. So how's about your nice social media guy goes and gives me a nice follow on the old Twitter.) and I had about 5 students asking about Fresher's Wristbands (24th July my flowers. We officers have to wait to see what the night events are, so do you I'm afraid).
We also had one 'YOOOOOO' and a 'is it too late for the online chat?' whilst being on the online chat because you have to have a chuckled when you're cooped in a room for 5-6 hours.
Alot of people might not also know, that I also get involved with lots of other projects as well as the postgrad stuff. One of my projects is that I voluenteer with After 18 on a Wednesday, this is a program for young people seeking asylum that for whatever reason have been separated from their parents. As part of this project, I teach students for 2 hours a week and noticed that some of the students had hobbies from their home countries that they couldn't partake in here in UK so I'm now cranking the brain cells to see if we can do something as a union to help.
I also am the chair of Sub-Aqua this year which has now undergone a name change to (drum roll please), DMU SCUBA! Mainly because more people know about scuba diving than Sub-Aqua. So yesterday the committee had a meeting to discuss our plans for Fresher's week and beyond. It's all very exciting, even if I am going to be run ragged during that week.
I'm pretty sure that that's everything now,
so until my next entry.
Toodle pips.
