My little DSU rewind

Well guys,

On Friday, I am no longer an Undergrad. Myself and Louise will now become the first ever postgraduates to fill an officer role and I will offically be a postgrad. Now alot has happened over the past 3 years and the DSU has alot to thank for that, so with that, I want to do a little hightlights reel of some of my most vivid DSU memories.

Bow down to the badass (DSU elections 2017)

Ok so picture the scene. Kelly has just been told that she's not getting on her teaching course, she has to film a video to get a role otherwise she's another statistic in the 68% autism unemployment rate. She's had 0 time to prepare and was pretty much on the war path. So what did I do, told some people to 'vote for this badass'. Apparently only 181 people liked badasses because if more did, I would've stolen Mollie's job but looking back, it has to be a highlight of my election campaign this year.

Davies the DSU Debater (DSU elections 2017)

The 2nd hightlight of this year's election was the TV debate. This was for several reasons, firstly it was a brand new thing for this year's elections so everyone regardless of if they were a election veteran or a campaigning virgin were new to the format. Morever what I really liked about it was that they focused on our manifesto and thus, you needed to be able to back up your words. Also during our debate, we had a man in a morph suit sneak behind us with the word 'Banter' on a sign which lifted moral during that downer day.

Amsterdamn that's alot of alcohol (DSU take Amsterdam 2016)

Now. I'm not going to encourage you all to get smash but if you must, I would reccomend Amsterdam as a good place to go. Especially if you go on their bar crawl, I spent 30 euros and was absolutely plankered to the point I drunk skype my boyfriend whilst he was trying to pull an all nighter. Seriously though, there needs to be another uni trip.

How to do a speech drunk (DSU Awards 2017)

Warning: Explicit language and drunken ramblings.

I'm starting to notice a pattern with some of my high points however I had to put this on the highlight reel. So a little bit of backstory, Kelly didn't think she was winning squat. Sub-Aqua had just won the sports award the day before and thus she thought she'd be greedy if she won something else. So she decided to spritz a whole bottle of white wine before the ceremony. Then she won the course rep development award and then the whole of Creative Writing decided to buy her a drink to celebrate, then Kelly got nominated for DSU Personality. Then in her brain, though Ollie (of Demon Media fame) played a sport, he didn't. So a drunken and estastic Kelly ended up air guitaring to the stage and then was given a microphone. This speech was the results of that.

I think this was a hightlight not only because I was smashed but also because I ended up walking out with 2 awards. The bottom line, is that I've made history and nobody can take that away.

Happy Kelly, Fresher Kelly, Little ball of fur (FreshFest14):

Look at my little Fresher face

It's been a while since I was a Fresher, which means I now feel incredibly old. Alot happened during my time as a Fresher. Firstly I left the Fresher's Ball crying because my flatmates decided to leave me in the middle of the O2 on the first night with 5,000 people (thanks for that guys). Then my first night in Injunction ended with my best friend giving my other best friend a concusion  and sticking to the floor. Then there was  the Friday night that started as dinner and ended with us all leaving liquid to walk our sober friend back (which then turned into him walking us back).  I've learnt alot since that Freshers but this was the first photo I ever took as a DMU Student so it had to go in the highlight reel.

Sun, Sea and Sandiles (Sub-Aqua tour 2017)

He looks a bit snappy doesn't he?

If you have the opportunity to go on tour. Please do so. It is easily the best week plus of your year at Uni. What makes this one even more special was the fact that me and David (the old sub-aqua chair) organised this by ourselves with DMU Global, we had to make sure everyone got there, had somewhere to sleep and were where they were supposed to be. For the 6 months before it, I was very stressed, trying to put things together and making sure everyone was happy. There was also an abismal attempt of me speaking spanish in the office in order to try to sort out a payment issue much to the office's amusment.

However when we touched down on the Island and everyone got to the villa, it was all worth it. The memories we now have as a group are some that I will treasure beyond my unidays. So if you have to chance to go on tour or do a global trip, take it because the memories you have are amazing!

The great thing about the DSU is that there are so many opportunities that are available to you. Whether you are a sports nut or prefer chess, there is so much you can get involved. It doesn't matter what year you are, get involved with your DSU.  Who knows, by the time you graduate, you might have your own highlight reel and I look forward to seeing it.

Until the next entry...

toodle pips,

Kelly
