No rest for the wicked

Well, today I had another busy day as an officer, which contained lots of training and meetings.

My first appointment was at the Greenhouse where I had part 2 of my clearing training (you can read about part 1 here). This was more focused on the telephone aspect of it and was incredibly quick which was a little bit of a blessing given that I've had issues with my DSU log-in (there's a hint of irony about that statement). Hopefully, it shall be fixed before results day as I really don't like the thought of having to update the SCUBA microsite at 5 o'clock in the morning.

Given I had a 2-hour gap between my first two meetings, I got bored very easily (which explains why I'm always here, there and everywhere) and so decided to go upstairs to the officers. However, only the activities team were there (until Sam and David came in halfway through) and there is only so long that I can talk to them before I become annoying. Having decided I was close to that limit, I decided to catch up with Jess.

Said catch up turned into the pair of us joining the assembly line for the Fresher packs. You see, 5000 welcome packs are being sent out next week to all of the new DMU students. That's 5000 lanyards that need preparing, 5000 booklets that will be popped into envelopes and that's without the other stuff. Needless to say, it's worth it though, to see the excitement and 'I'm ready for Uni tweets'. I also get a sneaky peak of the day and night programs and I can honestly say that we are set up to have the best Freshers in my memory. Obviously, I am only allowed to talk about certain events at the moment due to social media policy but come next week, expect a full breakdown of all of the events that I am excited for.

5000 of these will be sent next week. If you get one, tweet @DSU_PG with #IAmAwesome and I'll give you a cheeky retweet.

So following my stint in the assembly line, Sarah (your new women's officer) and I had our social media training. Which means that we were finally let loose with our officer twitter accounts. If you haven't followed it already, you can @DSU_PG. A sneaky secret for you all, the officers are having a mini-competition to see who can get the biggest increase in followers this year and I really want to thrash their rears.

Following our social media training, I resumed my position on the assembly line, where the office discovered that my throws are still as awful as they were when I nearly injured the whole to 'Team DMU' with bar-crawl t-shirts. Jess and I then had a cheeky catch up over subway (the joys of summer break, Subway doesn't have a conga. Praise the lord) before meeting number 3.

Meeting number 3 was with Leanne from the Disability Advice and Support team reference New to DMU (of which I spoke about in yesterday's Transition Tuesday). This year we have lots of interest so it will be very interesting, passing on my words of wisdom to the next bunch of fresher's. This does mean however that I will be out of office from the 6-8th September so if you want to meet me then, you're going to have a hard time as I'm going to be busy for those 3 days. :-)

It's scary to think how quickly the time is going at the moment and how much I'm already starting to put in place ready for the start of the academic year. It's going to be exciting, that's for certain.

So until my next entry,

Toodle pips,

Kelly
