I apologise for my lack of blogging recently, I have been very busy sorting out my new crib ready for the academic year.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting Ieuan Smith. Ieuan is a special fellow in that he is actually a president. You see Keele have their own postgraduate students union. That's right, they have a student's union just for Postgrads. It's a stark contrast to what we have here at DMU and it's interesting to see what other universities do and to notice that they have the same problems that we have.
What I found most interesting was the number of PHD students who are dignosed with depression after they graduate. The current study labels this number as high as 50% which is far too high for my liking. So I am now thinking about how to put a campaign together so that we can support PHD students during their 3 years+ at uni.
Today meanwhile, I was sent my induction for my postgrad course. Where I had to do a variety of modules to learn about life at DMU (you'd think an old bint who's been here 3 years would know this but no they have to remind me anyway). One of the modules was the DSU modules because I don't have a clue who the officer team are and what the SU stands for (note; this is sarcasm).
I also had to do variety of other exciting modules including; health and safety, the libary, student life and equality and diversity. Fortunlately, as I knew about 85% of the material and so it was very quick (I think I did it all in an hour tops) which is sweet relief compared to my previous enrollment efforts.
I have also voluenteered for international welcome week and I'm working 'New to DMU' so I look forward to seeing all the new faces that come on campus.
I shall now love you and leave you all, we have a nitendo wii and some prosecco in the fridge.
Toodle pips,
Kelly

| I spent my whole time wondering who that nutter at the back was and why she is doing a really bad rendition of the YMCA. |
