That happy accident

Don't you just love it when things don't turn out the way you planned them? For me, I usually hate such a scenario, however, when it gives you your first win of the year, I can be slightly more tolerant.

It all began with an innocent tweet to the VC saying that it would be great to have students feature their writing on the Vijay Petally. Seems sweet enough, doesn't it? Well, there was a fierce debate about what is DMU's 'look' and this ultimately concluded with the VC announcing that he is going to put more poems on the patelly both of students and other poets. Am I shocked, hell yes.Am I proud that humanities are showing off more, feck yes! This will be my 4th year as part of the school of humanities and I'm so happy that there's now an element of recognition for events like Open Day.

So when I wasn't debating with the VC, I also did other things. The biggest one being the shaping of my #GetInvolved Campaign. The goal is to get at least 35 postgraduate students involved in some form of election be an officer role, committee role or a course rep. I had a meeting on Friday reference my current vision and I'm planning some more meetings to turn that vision into a reality so I will keep you posted about what happens.

Which then leads to my other task. I am currently in the middle of doing research for a current proposal to the higher powers. This proposal looks to have an adapted version of the current 'Love EU' bundle that will be accessible for international students who don't live in an EU country. Why am I doing this? Because they pay £3000+ more per academic year, pay £30000+ for visa related funds (with no form of loans) and DMU is really pushing their 'Love International campaign' so to me it makes sense to adapt this incentive. I am currently looking to have this meeting at the end of October so check in early November time to see what happens.

Next week is the international welcome week (YAY). So tomorrow, I am going to be working on the tables with my happy smile and advising international students on all things DMU and DSU. Then I have activities conference on Tuesday, a meeting with Derrick reference DMU Global on Wednesday, a meal out on Thursday and the start of Freshers on Friday (and breath). Needless to say, there will probably be quite a few blog entries next week.

Until tomorrow (most likely),

Toodle pip,

Kelly.
