I hate favouritism, in some ways the whole 'why does this uni/year/club get that and I don't?' comes in handy and anyone who knows me knows that I despise injustice. Perhaps this was the reason I felt a little jealous when I've seen photos of 3rd year UGs in New York whilst I'm sat in my little flat.
'But Kelly, you got to go last year'
No. I did not, my course, unfortunately, had the short end of DMU Global lottery last year which meant I couldn't go to New York because of lack of opportunity, fortunately, this had changed for this year's cohort of English Crewtons.
Nope. Unfortunately, when you get to PG land DMU Global is few and far between. It's something I have spoken about in multiple prior entries and it's why I'm constantly putting pressure on the University to make sure this changes. Which is why I am happy to announce the following:
Which reminds me of my little side project. I can now confirm that for the last 2-3 months, I have been having a little back and forth conversation with Outgoing. For those who don't know, Outgoing are the people who send the sporty folk abroad for a week to get smashed and call it Sportsvest. After a couple of conversations with the SU (mainly to ensure that I can plan the trip without the risk of being shot), I am happy to announce that I will be organising a special 'celebration tour' that will take place in September.
The cities to choose from will be discussed in my forums as soon as I have some final figures from Outgoing and then I will give you guys the details via this blog and my Twitter. This is something that I am really excited to plan as I personally believe that PG students work so hard on their exams/assignments/research and yet there hasn't really been any way to properly reward them, this trip not only plans to match what others SUs do but 1-up it.
I'm very happy to spread this good news to you all and I plan to spread some more good news soon.
Until then,
Toodle pips,
Kelly Davies

- Every faculty will have 3 DMU Global opportunities for PG Students with this looking to expand to every PG Taught course by the following academic year.
- DMU Global and the University are introducing a 'researching abroad programme' where PhD students can spend 1-6 months studying abroad as part of their research. This is something I'm really passionate about and something that could attract far more PhD applicants in the future.
