It's been another busy week in officer land and student land and just all the other lands but loose.
This week I had the 'joy' of a 2 hour council with 8 policies, conference planning and 2 RAG events.
My week began on Tuesday with the first of 2 DSU RAG events, a charity talent show. Entry was £5 and the funds were being split between LOROS, RNIB and Asthma UK. Unfortunately, my spoken word piece was not enough to win the funds, but I was a relatively enjoyable evening nevertheless. Not to mention, we must have raised about £100 on the night for charity.
Then it was Thursday where I took part in an art class as part of Demi's See the Invisable campaign. The art class focused on autism and we all spoke about our experiences whilst painting pretty pictures using masking tape.
It was very interesting to hear about other people's experiences and I think was a very good call on Demi's part to highlight this. Not to mention she's organised some fabulous activities this week.
Following our relaxing art class, it was time to be thrusted into the lion's den and get stressed again. That's right, it's council time! This council began with potential new officer roles because the FTO's roles are currently 20 years out of date! After a couple of questions were asked about the new roles, there was a pertition that was promoted. Then it was time for the FTO scrutiny, aka poor Derrick getting spitroasted over his faculty games for 5 minutes plus, was this part of an election strategy? We will never know. After his roasting, Derrick left council to set up his cultural showcase and the other FTOs were scrutinised. Not as bad as poor Derrick mind.
Then it was time for the 8 policies. Yes 8. I'm pretty sure that's a record in the 3 years I've sat on councils. My policy was the first one. It was nothing too game changing, just that I wanted to move the election for my role from March until October so that more PG students can run for the role.
After my policy, there was a policy of PTO scrutiny. Ironically, because it took so long to discuss the policy, we didn't actually have time to do the PTO scrutiny. 🍵 But I digress. After this policy, Jess passed two policies on Sustainability and Drugs and then the scruntiny guy tried to pass a policy on playing Demon. It failed. Misserably.
Needless to say, I was thanking my lucky stars when 7pm came along and the peacocks put their tail feathers away. I was also VERY hungry! So I decided to pay £3 and head to the SU for the Cultural Showcase. The food was amazing and had everything from Spring Rolls to Dominoes Pizza. However marks did have to be docked slightly since my ex was the photographer that night, our conversation was amicable if slightly awkard.
Now it's Saturday and I'm currently getting ready for Mollie's party tommorow. No doubt there will be some drunken photos somewhere on the internet.
Until then folks,
Toodle pips,
Kelly Davies
