My oh my, how quickly has this year flown by. It seems like yesterday and now it's fucking March. March at the SU means 2 things, varsity and elections. I'm involved in both this year!
For those who don't know, Varsity is our annual competition with those other folks from the University of Leicester. Think of it like the Olympics only with a lot more alcohol and offensive chants and you've essentially got our varsity.
I started by watching the Futsal Varsity on Friday night which was very enjoyable if only for the lads micky taking of one UOL who decided to wear knee pads indoors. Why? I do not know given that futsal isn't exactly the most violent of sports.
Saturday, I was then at the QE2 sweating in the humidity of the pool spectator area. Mental note, if you plan to watch a swimming gala, bring all of the anti-frizz spray because I ended up looking like a poodle. In case, you haven't guessed, I went to see the swimming varsity because my friend was taking part, needless to say they are far better at diving than I am.
Sunday, was Lacrosse day. The poor men got absolutely battered to the point where a goal was disallowed because we had too many players on the pitch. However it was nice to reunite with a couple of people that I knew last year and to meet some of the alumni who took me under their wing. By the end of the women's game, I had been asked if I wanted to join them on tour because I had really good banter.
Yesterday, I was at the Hockey varsity which then lead to me being invited to Revs and staggering back from the SU with 0 idea of how I got home. Needless to say, I had a pretty good night. Moral of the story, if you want to stay sober, don't go to a DMU Hockey fixture, you will get wrecked! I would personally like to thank DMU Women's Football who apparently rescued drunk Kelly from a cubicle in the SU because she was that smashed.
As well as varsity, it is also election season. This means lots of people have been campaigning hard in order to get a role in the SU next year. I shall talk about that in a little bit more detail in my next entry.
Until thenf olks,
Toodle Pips.
